Walmart and Wing Expand Drone Delivery to Seven More U.S. Metro Areas

Key takeaways:

  • Drone delivery is expanding to major metro areas across the South, Northeast and West.

  • Walmart and Wing aim to build a network of more than 270 locations serving over 40 million Americans by 2027.

  • Eligible orders can arrive in about 30 minutes, with drones lowering packages to designated delivery areas.

Walmart and Wing are accelerating their drone delivery ambitions with plans to launch service in seven additional metro areas, including Memphis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area and Salt Lake City, as Progressive Grocer reports. The expansion will push the companies’ delivery network to nearly 20 U.S. markets as they work toward reaching more than 40 million people by 2027. Building on over 1 million commercial deliveries already completed in markets such as Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Atlanta, the service uses drones capable of traveling up to 60 mph and delivering eligible purchases—including groceries, electronics and household essentials—in as little as 30 minutes, according to Progressive Grocer.

Why it matters:

  • Drone delivery could make urgent and last-minute purchases significantly faster for more households.

  • Walmart’s extensive physical footprint gives the retailer a powerful foundation for scaling emerging delivery models.

  • With more than 1 million commercial deliveries completed, the technology is increasingly shifting from pilot programs to repeatable retail service.

Gen Z’s Digital Fatigue is Creating New Opportunities for Real-World Brand Experiences

Key takeaways:

  • Many younger consumers are trying to reduce social media use amid concerns about its broader impact.

  • Physical hobbies, live events, and hands-on activities are becoming meaningful complements to digital life.

  • Retailers and tech platforms are experimenting with in-person activations, community-building, and more intentional digital experiences.

Younger consumers are showing growing interest in stepping away from constant scrolling and spending more time on physical hobbies, live events and face-to-face connections, creating a meaningful shift for marketers and retailers, as EMarketer reports. More than half of Gen Z reportedly tried to quit or reduce social media use in 2025, even as digital platforms remain deeply embedded in how they communicate, discover products, and entertain themselves. Rather than abandoning technology entirely, many are balancing screen time with analog activities and in-person experiences, prompting brands such as Levi’s, L.L.Bean and Ulta Beauty to invest in customization studios, outdoor-focused campaigns and exclusive events. Even digital platforms are responding to fatigue with features and messaging designed to encourage more intentional use, signaling that the next phase of consumer engagement may depend on helping people build richer lives beyond the screen, according to EMarketer.

Why it matters:

  • Stores and events offer brands new opportunities to build memorable relationships beyond online advertising.

  • In-person experiences can help companies observe preferences and gather immediate customer feedback.

  • Brands and platforms that acknowledge digital fatigue and support more balanced habits could strengthen credibility with younger audiences.
