Hasbro, Inc. celebrated the second annual International Day of Play (IDOP) this week on June 11, 2025. The special day emphasized the importance of play in children’s lives and encouraged communities to prioritize it.
Hasbro marked the occasion with a range of initiatives that promote creativity, social connection, and emotional well-being. Among these efforts was the release of a new, family-friendly Dungeons & Dragons adventure and community programs designed to reach children and families around the world.
Hasbro VP of EHS, Sustainability, and Corporate Citizenship, Theron Grim, said, “This International Day of Play, we’re calling on everyone to make more space for play. In a world where loneliness is rising and access to play isn’t equal, we know it has the power to build friendships, boost emotional well-being, and spark lifelong skills like problem-solving, collaboration, and empathy. Whether it’s through roleplaying games like DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, hands-on creativity with PLAY-DOH, or programs in hospitals and schools, we’re all in on expanding access to play for every child and every fan.”
The International Day of Play, officially recognized by the United Nations in 2024, was designated to raise awareness of play as a basic right for every child. It advocates for more time, safe spaces, and access to quality play experiences across all communities.
To kick off the celebration, Hasbro and its subsidiary, Wizards of the Coast, launched Borderlands Quest: Goblin Trouble. Available for free through D&D Beyond and at more than 300 participating retailers across the U.S., the game is designed to be an engaging entry point for players of all ages.
Hasbro is also extending the magic of play to underserved communities. Partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Hasbro is piloting D&D-themed afterschool clubs at ten locations nationwide. These clubs are equipped with game libraries and training support to cultivate young Dungeon Masters.
Additionally, Hasbro is teaming up with the Starlight Children’s Foundation to deliver D&D materials and toys to more than 800 pediatric hospitals. Special visits by Hasbro employees will bring interactive joy to children in select cities, including Seattle and Los Angeles.
Beyond the U.S., Hasbro is coordinating global play initiatives. In the U.K., it has partnered with Spread a Smile to host engaging sessions at London hospitals. In Singapore, teams are organizing playdays and collaborating with nonprofits like Special Effect and City Year.
