American Express recently launched Amex Ads, a digital advertising system to assist brands in engaging with the brand’s 34 million U.S. Consumer Card Members. The platform debuts on AmexTravel.com and will expand to additional American Express-owned properties.
Its goal is to present contextual, relevant ads to high-spending Card Members at key moments when they are most likely to shop, book, or engage with brands they trust. Building on the success of the long-running Amex Offers™ program, which drove $15 billion in global spend in 2024, Amex Ads delivers timely messages backed by deep consumer insights and transactional data.
American Express Executive VP and General Manager of Membership Portfolio Services, Alexander Drummond, said, “Powered by American Express Membership and building on the success of Amex Offers, Amex Ads harnesses the power of our direct relationships with Card Members and brands to benefit both. With Amex Ads, brands can reach Card Members with relevant content at exactly the right time, while maintaining the privacy, security, and trust our Card Members expect.”
Amex Ads leverages American Express’ unique first-party data and customer insights to serve targeted digital media campaigns across its ecosystem. During its pilot phase, major brands like Marriott Bonvoy, Macy’s, and TUMI saw strong results by using the platform to reach Card Members actively booking or planning travel.
Marriott, for example, achieved ad performance three times above its benchmark by targeting flight bookers who had not yet secured a hotel. TUMI boosted sales by 30% above expectations through strategic ad placement during and after travel bookings.
American Express Senior Vice President and Head of Amex Offers Digital Media, Jacob King, said, “In a world where every dollar of marketing spending has to work hard to deliver value, Amex Ads is a game-changer for advertisers. Our capability to measure sales uplift online and in-store can level the playing field, delivering tangible evidence of the advertising value delivered.”
