Staples has announced its new Rewards program that gives members 5% back on everything, including technology and services, and provides free shipping on Staples.com. The new program, which was based in feedback from small business customers, launches March 15.

Additional Staples Rewards benefits will be introduced in the coming months for Rewards Plus and Premier Members, including exclusive Staples Copy & Print and Staples EasyTech services.

As of March 15, members receive 5% back in rewards on all items excluding taxes, postage, prepaid phone cards, delivery charges, coupons, gift cards and purchases made on third-party Web sites. Staples Rewards back are issued online monthly when the value of the reward is at least $10. Rewards expire no less than 60 days after issuance. Monthly balances of less than $10 will roll over each month until the minimum is met for that calendar quarter. If the $10 minimum for the quarter has not been met, the balance will expire at the end of the quarter.

Carrie McElwee, Director of Public Relations for Staples, told Loyalty 360 that customers have inquired about earning more rewards on more items, and “5% back in rewards on everything, every day, in store and online is a response to that.”

The program operates the same as the current Staples rewards program, McElwee added.

“Customers sign up for free Staples Rewards membership on StaplesRewardsCenter.com or in store,” she said. “Additionally, the new Staples Rewards program provides free shipping on Staples.com. Overall our objective was to meet the needs of our customers.”

The new Rewards program complements the Staples omnichannel experience, which allows customers to shop online at Staples.com, via phone, or mobile app. Customers who visit one of the more than 1,500 Staples stores in the U.S. can order in advance using Reserve Online, Pick-up in Store, which allows for same day in-store pick-up on select online items, or Ship-to-Store that lets customers ship their order to the store closest to their business for convenience.
