Shopping cart customer messagingWith holiday shopping now getting underway, the persistent flurry of “Add to Cart” clicks can leave many items regretfully forgotten like Kevin McAllister in Home Alone. In the spirit of giving, many companies have begun sending friendly triggered messaging CRM reminders to consumers, in hopes that this furthered engagement will urge customers to complete transactions.

During the biggest spending period of the year, the last thing that companies want is to watch portions of potential sales rotting on the table. Triggered Messaging, a behavioural and real-time marketing company recently announced the findings of its monthly study, the Real-Time Marketing Report. The data suggest that utilization of cart and browse abandonment marketing campaigns can result in substantial gains in sales. Companies running such campaigns earned an average of £109,000 in additional profit, for each £1,000,000 of turnover. The average extra sales accrued is a £7,000 increase since September of this year.

“If we take the home & garden market as an example,” Pete Austin, Chief Technical Officer at Triggered Messaging, said in a release, “cart abandon emails are accounting for an additional £104,000 in sales per £1,000,000 in turnover. This is impressive in its own right, but the use of browse abandon emails adds a further £42,000.”

Not only do browse and cart abandonment campaigns often lead to additional sales gained, but they also add another unique touch point from organisations to consumers to increase engagement on the customer journey. For organisations looking to increase returns from online shopping, browse and cart abandonment campaigns are a two-pronged approach to achieving this while also advancing CRM strategies through an added personalized consumer touch point.
