Taco John’s Extends a Helping Hand During Government Shutdown
Taco John’s recently helped local communities impacted by the government shutdown by offering free meals. From Friday, October 31, through Sunday, November 2, participating locations offered a complimentary Community Support Special for each guest, featuring a beef or bean burrito and junior Potato Olés. The initiative originally began with one franchise and quickly expanded throughout the wider Taco John’s community.
Taco John’s International President and CEO Heather Neary said, “We’re proud to be giving back to our communities who have supported us since 1969. Our vision is to be the community’s first choice for tacos and burritos, and this effort is a reflection of that commitment.”
Beyond providing free meals, Taco John’s is extending its support through a charitable donation initiative. For every Taco Bravo sold on Thursday, November 6, the Taco John’s Foundation will contribute funds to local food banks. The Taco Bravo, recently recognized by USA Today as the nation’s top fast food taco, serves as both a fan favorite and a vehicle for goodwill. Together, these efforts underscore Taco John’s enduring commitment to nourishing both its customers and the communities it proudly calls home.

The Save Mart Companies Launch “Right By You” Affordability Promise to Support Families Facing Rising Costs
The Save Mart Companies, which operates 191 Save Mart, Lucky, and FoodMaxx grocery stores throughout California and Nevada, has introduced the “Right By You” Affordability Promise to help ease some of the financial pressure of inflation and rising food costs. Recognizing the difficult choices families are making between essential needs, President Jim Perkins emphasized that the company’s mission is to provide real, practical help.
Perkins said, “When families tell us they’re choosing between groceries or gas, between meat on the table or medicine in the cabinet, we can’t shrug and say ‘that’s inflation.’ That’s what ‘Right By You’ is all about—12 programs, food bank matching funds, and community investment. We’re meeting people where they are with solutions that actually help.”
Under the Food Affordability theme, Save Mart is rolling out deep discounts and low-cost meal options that make nutritious eating more attainable. Highlights include a 50% off meat and produce event, holiday meal bundles for under $6 a person, a 10% military discount, and a new 100% natural private-label meat line designed to deliver quality at lower prices. The Food Access portion of the initiative expands community support through programs that fight hunger and improve accessibility. The “Friends Feeding Friends” campaign encourages shoppers to donate $5 or $10 Pantry Packs for local food banks, with Save Mart matching contributions up to $120,000 in partnership with Keurig Dr Pepper. Other programs include free grocery delivery for qualifying orders, discounts for SNAP recipients through DoorDash, and Flashfood partnerships offering up to 50% off items near their expiration dates. Coupled with enhanced digital coupons, flexible “buy now, pay later” options, and community events, these programs demonstrate Save Mart’s ongoing promise to make food more affordable and accessible.
