Instacart and Wegmans have launched a pilot program featuring Instacart’s AI-powered Caper Carts at the Dewitt Wegmans in Syracuse, New York – the first deployment of this technology at a Wegman’s location. This program is part of Instacart’s ‘Connected Stores’ initiative, aimed at merging digital convenience with in-store shopping.

The Caper Carts are equipped with cameras, digital scales, and location sensors powered by NVIDIA Jetson. These features enable automatic item recognition, real-time spending tracking, weight verification, and a seamless checkout experience, all accessible via the cart’s touchscreen interface. Shoppers can log into their Wegmans Shoppers Club loyalty account on the cart to unlock personalized offers and savings.

This initiative is a strategic extension of the long-standing partnership between Instacart and Wegmans, which start in 2017 with same-day delivery and has since expanded to include pickup, EBT SNAP payment, and loyalty integration.

“Caper Carts are transforming everyday grocery shopping into a faster, more personalized experience,” said Chief Connected Stores Officer at Instacart, David McIntosh.
