Black Friday, Cyber Monday Set New Records for Amazon

Amazon has announced that Cyber Monday was once again the single biggest shopping day in the company’s history with more products ordered worldwide than any other day. Additionally, the Turkey 5, those five popular shopping days starting with Thanksgiving and continuing through Cyber Monday, broke records as customers in the United States purchased millions more products over the five day period compared to the same period last year. In fact, Amazon customers worldwide ordered more than 18 million toys and more than 13 million fashion items on Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.

“Black Friday and Cyber Monday continue to break records on Amazon year over year, which tells us that customers love shopping for deals to kick off the holiday shopping season,” says Jeff Wilke, CEO Worldwide Consumer. “With curated gift guides, convenient shopping experiences, incredible product selection, and free shipping with no minimum purchase amount, Amazon offers customers tremendous value—sure to deliver smiles all season long.”

OpenMarket and RealNetworks Join Forces to Combat Messaging Fraud

RealNetworks, a provider of streaming media delivery software, and OpenMarket, a mobile messaging company, have announced an initiative to identify and counter fraud in the United States and the United Kingdom. Preceding a global rollout, OpenMarket will start by implementing a UK pilot deployment of Kontxt, a machine-learning platform for A2P messaging from RealNetworks.

“In an era where privacy is highly scrutinized, SMS fraud must be addressed before it erodes consumer trust,” says Max Pellegrini, President of RealNetworks. “This collaboration between Kontxt and OpenMarket safeguards not only consumers but also mobile network providers and organizations in the next generation of messaging. We’re excited to partner with OpenMarket and we look forward to accomplishing further innovation together.”
