Red Lobster Launches Ocean Sustainability Challenge for Middle School Students
Red Lobster recently launched the Ocean Sustainability Challenge on February 5, inviting middle school students across the United States to create innovative solutions for pressing ocean and waterway issues. The initiative is part of Red Lobster’s dedication to sustainability through its Seafood with Standards program, which emphasizes traceable, responsible sourcing of seafood. By tapping into the creativity and problem-solving skills of students, the restaurant chain hopes to extend its commitment to promoting ocean protection and preservation.

Red Lobster CEO Damola Adamolekun said, “At Red Lobster, we know that protecting our oceans is vital for future generations. The Red Lobster Ocean Sustainability Challenge embodies our commitment to sustainability by empowering young minds to think critically, innovate, and contribute to safeguarding our marine ecosystems. It’s inspiring to see the next generation take action and explore solutions that have the potential to make a real difference.”

The challenge encourages students to use STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) to design practical solutions that contribute to the health of the planet while inspiring students to think critically and creatively while fostering a sense of environmental responsibility. Teams of up to five students are invited to submit their ideas through a three-minute video. Expert judges in ocean sustainability will evaluate the submissions, and the top five teams will receive exciting prizes, including free registration to the 2025 FIRST Robotics competition. The grand prize-winning team will enjoy an all-expenses-paid trip to California, where they will meet ocean sustainability innovators and participate in other fun activities.
