Many members of GameStop’s highly successful PowerUp Rewards loyalty program have asked the company to send them their rewards automatically after reaching a certificate reward threshold. After listening to its customers, GameStop earlier this month offered customers the option to customize their reward experiences, tracking their accounts in real time, while keeping more money in their pockets during a more personalized experience.
Darin Smith, Senior Director of GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards program, told Loyalty360 that members communicated that they want to spend what they earn faster and easier.
“To that end, our goal is simple: We want to have the members be able to use their certificates in our stores where our team members can help them to see what incredible value we offer for games, accessories and consoles, both pre-owned and new, as well as our new collectibles area,” Smith told Loyalty360.
GameStop officials received the bulk of customer insights during their quarterly brand tracker and focus focus groups conducted throughout the year.
“We also listened a great deal to our team members in our stores,” Smith added. “This is where the rubber meets the road and they overwhelmingly told us this was a top request.”
Now, all U.S. members of PowerUp Rewards can choose to save their points and make selections from the PowerUp Rewards Catalog or receive $5, $10, or $15 reward certificates that can be used to make purchases in any GameStop store.
Members can enroll at any GameStop store and manage their accounts online or within the GameStop mobile app, available for free download through iTunes® and the Google Play store. The newly added dashboard feature makes it easier for members to select their reward preferences. As they reach certain point thresholds they will see the certificates added to their individual Active Offers, or they can stockpile their points to shop for great items in the Rewards Catalog.
For all purchases made at GameStop, PowerUp Rewards members receive points that can be redeemed for a variety of rewards, including gaming gear and collectibles available in the PowerUp Rewards Catalog and rare game-related rewards and experiences. For example, for 25,000 points or less members can get such cool items as a 12-inch Godzilla figure, a R2D2 STAR WARS scarf, or a $25 reward certificate.
The first reward certificates are being issued now via email when a member has a qualifying point balance of at least 5,000 points. Reward certificates will be valid for 30 days.
GameStop, a multichannel video game and electronics retailer, currently operates more than 7,100 stores across 14 countries. Smith talked about the evolution of the PowerUp Rewards program.
“It is always evolving,” he said. “Even though we are the largest video game loyalty program, we have to be advancing how we better serve the member with more distinct value, ease of use, and more things to keep them engaged like gamification and personalization.”
